because it consist of very gentle movements.

As it gets a bit dull to do this exercise alone long term we should incorporate this into

The Massage Qigong Of China 气功按摩

Benefits: cure and prevent illness, anti ageing, restore youthfulness, 

                         beautifies the body and facial features,facilititate flow of energy and blood


  • The Massage Qigong may be performed before or after regular qigong exercises.
  • Before performing the Massage, remove your cap or hat and spectales.

  • Sufferers of high blood pressure and heart disease should not perform the Massage Qigong with too much vigour.

  • The face and especiallu areas around the eyes, should be gently massaged.

  • Massage applied to meridian points should be in accordance with individual adaptability, while the need for light or heavypressure should be properly comprehended.
  • Effects of the Massage Qigong are:
  • Clears up and facilitates the flow of energy and blood; strengthens the effectiveness of qigong practice;  cures and prevents illness; promotes longetivity; beautifies the body and facial features; restores youthfulness.
  • The Massage Qigong may be practised in its entirety or in part according to one's wishes.

  • Standing, viewing the television or conversing while practising the Massage Qigong, does not affect its therapeutic effects in any way.

  • The preparatory posture should be as that required for meditative qigong, so that the body and mind as well as the breathing may be regulated. The whole body should be relaxed, with both eyes lightly closed (or looking straight ahead). As massaging proceeds, mentally utter the word "hao" (good).

  • Requirement as a whole comprises a meditative posture with head upright and body erect.

  • Sitting posture may be simply cross-legged, or cross-legged with one leg above the other, or in a "lotus position", or just a normal sitting position.





STEP 1 :  RUBBING  THE  PALMS

  • Rub the palms together with the fingers of one hand moving in between those of the other.
  • Rub the back of one hand with the palm of the other (change positions with the other hand) until warmth is felt


Therapeutic Effects : Clears up the Conception and Governor Vessels; activated the body's latent energy.




STEP 2 : "BATHING"  THE  FACE

  • Place both palms flat on the sides of the lower part of the face and push up with the fingers moving along the sides of the nose to the hairline.
  • Pull the palms aprt towards the ears and move downwards back to their original positions.
  • Repeat the movements of the palms on the face until warmth is felt.


Therapeutic Effects : Increases the blood circulation in the face; beautifies the facial skin.




STEP 3 :  MASSAGING  THE  NOSE

  • Massage the Ying Xiang meridian points on both sides of the nose with the middle fingers.
  • Using the back of the thumbs, rub the sides of the nose up and down (10 times each direction) from the Ying Xiang meridians points up to the Cuan Zhu meridian points


Therapeutic Effects: For inflammation of the nose; inflammation at the nostrils; nasal disorders; influenza.

   
STEP 4 :  MASSAGING  THE  OPTIC  MERIDIAN  POINTS



  • Using the middle fingers, masage the Yu Yao, the Si Bai, the Jing Ming and the Tong Zi Liao meridians points.
  • Using the knucles of the thumbs, lightly massage the eyelid areas and the areas below the eyes, moving from the nose outwards. carry out the massage above and below the eyes 10 times each side.


Therapeutic Effects:  Myopia; Hypermetropia, myctalopia(night blindness); astigmatism; optic disorders.



STEP 5:  MASSAGING  OF HEAD  MERIDIANS  POINTS; COMBING THE HAIR AND KNOCKING THE HEAD

  • Using the thumbs, massage the Tai Yang and the Feng Chin meridians points. Massage the Bai Hui meridians points with the fingers of both hands.
  • Spread and crook the fingers of both hands; starting from the hairline above the forhead, and using the fingers lie combs, vigorously "comb" the hair 10 times from front to back.
  • Still keeping the fingers bent, knock on the head with the finger-tips from front to back.


Therapeutic Effects: Headaches, dizziness, disorders of brain arteries; deficiency of oxygen supply to brain; hair loss; greying hair.




STEP 6:  MASSAGING THE AURICULAR MERIDIAN POINTS; "SEALING" THE EARS; MASSAGING THE AURICLES; PULLING THE EARS

  • Using the middle fingers, massage the Ting Gong meridian points.
  • Cover the ears with the hands such that the Lao Gong meridian points of the palms tightly close up the ear-holes. Pull the palms away from the ears in a sudden movement. Do this 10 times.
  • Using the fore-fingers and thumbs of both hands, massage the auricles of both ears, moving upwards from the ear-lobes to the top of the auricles and down again to the ear-lobes. Do this 10 times, the movement up and down the auricle being counted as one.
  • Lastly, holding the top of the auricles between fore-fingers and thumbs, pull at the ears upwards 10 times.

Therapeutic Effects :  Deaf and Dumness; deafness; ringing in the ears; inflammation of the middle ear; disorders of the middle and inner ear;    nose-bleed; high blood pressure and disorders of the viscera.




STEP 7 :  MASSAGING  THE ARMS; RUBBING THE SHOULDERS

  • Using the right thumb, massage the left He Gu, Nei Guan, Chi Ze, Qu Chi  meridian points. Massage the same meridian points on the right arm with the left thumb.
  • Using the right palm, rub the left arm starting from the left shoulder down the outer arm to the back of the left hand, and again from the left palm's Lao Gong meridian point up the inner arm to the shoulder.
  • Do the same with the left palm on the right shoulder and arm. Repeat until warmth is felt on the skin.



Therapeutic Effects:  For inflammation of the shoulder and elbow; arthritis; headache, dizziness, toothache.




STEP 8:  RUBBING  THE CHEST AND LOWER ABDOMEN

  • Using both hands and starting from the chest rub downwards to the lower abdomen. Do this 10 times.
  • Taking the Dan Tian (navel) as centre-point, rub the abdomen with the palms in a clockwise direction spiralling outwards from the navel for 36 times. Clockwise will reduce involuntary seminal emmissions caused by weak intestinal energy.
  • Repeat step 2 in the opposite (anti-clockwise) direction which will reduce abdominal pain, discomfort, and indigestion.


Therapeutic Effects:  For inflammation of the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, lungs and trachea; gynaecological disorders; disorders of the digestive system.

STEP 9:  RUBBING THE LOWER BACK, BUTTOCKS AND KNEES

  • Place both palms on the lower back and rub up and down vvigorously until warmth is felt on the skin.
  • Move the palms forward along the outer thighs while continuing with the rubbing motion, to the knees. Rub the knees until warmth is felt.
  • Move the palms from the knees (while continuing with the rubbing motion) along the inner thighs up the lower part of  the body and back to the lower back behind).

       
        Carry out the whole procedure 10 times.

Therapeutic Effects: For disorders of the kidneys; lower back pain; injury due to overstrained lumbar vertebrae;
                             neuralgia of the sacral nerves; arthritis of the knees; muscular pain in the knees.




STEP 10 : MASSAGING THE LEG MERIDIAN POINTS; RUBBING THE FEET; ROTATING THE FEET; PRESSING THE YONG QUAN MERIDIAN POINTS

  • Using the thumb, massage the Wei Zhong, Cheng Shan, Zu san Li meridian points on the leg.
  • Rub each foot with both hands from the heel to the toe, until warmth is felt.
  • Holding the ankle of one foot with one hand, rotate the foot with the other hand in a clockwise and then anti-clockwise direction. Rotate 36 times for each foot.
  • Still holding the foot with one hand, press and massage the Yong Quan meridian points on the sole. Do the same to the other foot.


      Note: Do not wear socks or stocking when rubbing the feet.

Therapeutic Effects: For paralysis; motor neurone disease; arthritic pain; muscular atropy.

Effect: Clears the 5 viscera and 6 bowels as well as the eight vessels and 12 meridians.





STEP 11 : TERMINATING THE MASSAGE QIGONG

  • Return both the hands to the lower dan Tian and visualize the motion of terminating qigong (12 times each of clockwise and anti-clockwise movements).
  • Lightly clash the teeth in a chewing fashion.
  • With the lips closed tightly, blow out the cheeks, while slightly moving the air in the cheeks to the left and right.
  • Syill keeping the lips closed, pass the tongue over the outer surfaces of the teeth to the left and right and up and down.
  • Swallow whatever saliva there is in the mouth in 3 parts, down to the lower Dan Tian.
  • Rub the palms together.


     Note: Practice of this Massage Qigong should be regular and persistent, to bring out its remarkable benefits.
